The White Wood by orinoor The White Wood by orinoor
In the middle of a forest, is another, mysterious forest, known as "The White Wood". Few venture in and none come out. It is said the trees are an ancient race of beings, who feast on all manner of creatures....

This is so idyllic.  I want to be there.  I love shady glens.  There are a lot of these in Ireland and the UK.  America has mostly pine forests, which I like but I miss glens like this.  Very lovely.

I live in the States and this is modeled after a wood close to where I live. We have a lot of moss called "Old Man's Beard" and it looks like white string hanging from the trees, so densely, it makes the whole forest look white. This is supposed to be an oak forest with that moss, but I didn't have any moss, so I just did the best I could with what I had.

With or without the moss, it stands so well on its' own.  It has a lot of depth and atmosphere.:)  Are you on the east coast?  I'm on the west coast and everything here is either high plains desert, or pine or redwood forests.  Although there are elms and maple where I live because the forest is a bit mixed, it's not like the US east coast which has ancient oak forests, birch forests, elm and maple woods where leaves turn in autumn.  We kind of miss out on that here.:(  I'm not really complaining though.  I have a forest for a backyard so I disappear everyday into it.  I've seen mountain lions, bob cats, wild turkeys, deer.  Deer everywhere, especially in the AM.  We have condors, hawks of all sizes, skunks, porcupines, raccoons.  I have owls outside my window on summer evenings hooting away.  Wouldn't want to be a mouse around these parts.=D

You are very lucky to live with a forest at your back. You have ancient forests on the West Coast and the Coastal Redwoods are giants among trees. I've never been to the East Coast, here suits me just fine.

Where's here?  I thought you lived on the East coast.  I don't why, I just did.:giggle:  I do love the redwood forests.  We went to Sequoia a few times and up north to Arcata.  It's always breathtaking.  What's different about those ancient forests though is you can't walk through them.  You have to stay on the path because there's so much foliage and brush.  In birch, elm and maple forests, at least in my experience, is you can walk straight through them almost.  There's not ferns, no bushes, just trees.  I don't know why that is...=D
